If you follow me on Instagram, you might’ve seen some of my favorite skincare products that I use on a daily basis. With pregnancy, I’ve had to temporarily change my skincare routine to what’s healthy for me and my growing baby. I found it extremely hard to solidify my skincare because I love trying out new products. Through trial, error, and paranoia,  I’ve landed on a routine which I’ve now used for months and I must say that I am extremely happy with how my skin looks.  I feel the need to share  my complete pregnancy skincare routine! As this might be a guide to some of my moms to-be, please always ask your OB/GYN about any product before using.

Ingredients to avoid during pregnancy (your doctor’s will tell you these too):

  • Retinoids, Retin-A’s, anything Vitamin A derivative
  • Salicylic Acid & maybe some other acids. (On the safe side I don’t use Glycolic acid, but some say it’s safe)
  • Parabens/Phthalates
  • Sunscreen with Oxybenzone- This ingredient apparently penetrates through your skin allowing other chemicals to come through and also is associated with low birth weight in some cases.
  • Certain herbs such as Mugwort, Blue Tansy, Willow Bark (a natural form of salicylic acid)

HERE IS MY CURRENT SKINCARE ROUTINE:

My morning and evening routine is slightly different due to the fact that I have sensitive skin. I also don’t want certain products to counteract with each other so I chose to use some in the morning and some in the evening. Some of these products are natural or organic products, some are not. It really just depends how “all natural” or “organic” you’d like to get. If it’s not natural or organic, I tried to choose products that are made from the cleanest ingredients and obviously pregnancy safe. I stayed away from anything with parabens, sulfates, alcohol, and mostly fagrance free (some are naturally derived). In the end, it’s honestly completely up to you but just make sure to stay away from the ‘ingredients to avoid’ above!

Morning Routine

  1. I wash my face with water. I used to use a gentle cleanser like a foam cleanser, but I read about many people who just wash their face with water. I tried it in the beginning of my pregnancy and  found that my sensitive skin prefers it!

  2. Cosmedica Hyaluronic Acid Serum This is one of Amazon’s best sellers and also a celebrity fave! Did I mention it’s only $15?! I was using this before pregnancy and it’s one of the safe acids to use on your face during pregnancy. Hydration, hydration, hydration!

  3. Biossance Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil I love this oil so much! I used it before pregnancy and I love the way it keeps my skin hydrated and dewy. Biossance works hard to formulate their products to the highest standards of safety. Also their squalane is derived from olives, not shark livers! Sometimes I put this oil on my face by itself or mix it with my foundation or tinted moisturizer. It’s so gentle and doesn’t go on thick like some other facial oils do!

  4. Angela Caglia Luxurious Face Oil  This is one of my higher end skincare products, but its worth the splurge. It’s made with meadow foam seed oil, buriti oil, and so many other great oils! No other hidden ingredients! It smells amazing too! Just like the Biossance, I find it to also be very gentle and not thick. This facial oil really helps with my skin texture and dullness. Sometimes, I apply both oils together or switch them around depending on how I feel.

  5. Sonya Dakar Organic Omega Booster (in Oily/Combo skin)  So I just added this product to my skincare regimen and it leaves my skin glowing! I also love putting this on after a face or sheet mask! Since I do have combination skin and the weather is getting warmer, I wanted to try this product out to help balance my face’s oil production. I love that it’s organic too!

  6. Biossance Squalane + Peptide Eye Gel Another Biossance fave! It totally helps with my morning puffiness and it’s super lightweight. I normally look for eye gels that are water based and weightless to keep my under eyes hydrated. I find that thicker eye creams don’t work for me and make my under eyes dry.

  7. Sunscreen! Everyone knows how much I love sunscreen! Like I said in the beginning, you want to avoid any sunscreens with oxybenzone so normally something with zinc oxide or titanium oxide is preferably safe. My current favorites are: Coola Mineral Face SPF 30 Cucumber Matte Moisturizer I just started using this sunscreen and I personally love it. I like that it’s a mineral sunscreen, goes on sheer, very gentle on the skin, and the cucumber is a refreshing and cooling scent (not too much). It’s also formulated with organic ingredients! I like to use this moisturizer when I’m not wearing any foundation or face makeup. Supergroop Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40 I love to use this sunscreen for when I’m applying face makeup! I’ve talked about this sunscreen a lot on my insta stories, but it comes out clear with a velvety finish. It feels like a makeup primer! It also helps grip your makeup so this a perfect sunscreen for pre-makeup. Juice Beauty SPF 30 Tinted Mineral Moisturizer This one’s not pictured and that’s simply because it’s in my hospital bag! It has a different smell to it, not bad but I had to get used to it. I love that it’s a mineral moisturizer like the Coola one. I like to normally use it when I feel like having a slight tint of makeup to my face.

Evening Routine

  1. Bioderma Sensibio Micellar Water  Ever used micellar water? Bioderma is a European brand that I’m personally a fan of. Many celebrities and bloggers love this Micellar water too! It’s very gentle and great on sensitive skin. I only use it if I have makeup on, but it really helps to get all that initial makeup off before you wash your face!

  2. Whamisa by Glow Recipe Green Tea Foaming Cleansing Gel  Next I use this cleansing gel from Glow Recipe. I’ve been lucky enough to meet the founders of Glow Recipe and one of them was nice enough to send me a couple of products that she used during her pregnancy! It’s an inexpensive buy, gentle, and does what it needs to do. Cleanse!

  3. Honeybelle Flora Rosewater Toner  I love this small business Honeybelle. Their skincare line is simple and you know exactly what is in each product. Sometimes simple ingredients are what’s best! I love rosewater and the witch hazel makes it the best toner for pregnancy. I hate toners with alcohol cause that’s what dries out your skin so this is perfect!

  4. Whamisa by Glow Recipe Chai Tea Serum This is the other product that I was sent to try during pregnancy and I haven’t stopped using it since! It’s a antioxidant serum with chai roobios, tumeric, and propolis. I feel that it really helps with my skins texture and keeps it looking youthful!

  5. Glow Recipe Watermelon Pink Juice Moisturizer This moisturizer is amazing! It’s been shared on my Instagram like crazy because I love love love it! First of all, watermelon is super hydrating. Second, I love water based moisturizers on my skin. It also has Hyaluronic Acid in it’s ingredients for more hydration! I’ve got many of my friends hooked on it and it’s always sold out!

  6. Biossance Squalane + Peptide Eye Gel I use this both AM & PM

What are some of your favorite skincare products during pregnancy? I’d love to hear as I always love trying something new!

xx
